A huge population of service-aged distribution class cables (medium voltage range) require advanced measurement techniques to assess the risk of failure and to maintain cable system availability. The Power Diagnostix partial discharge detector ICM compact with the PD cable fault location option offers convenient field testing with 0.1Hz high-voltage sources, or resonant test sets (RTS). Commissioning of extra high voltage (EHV) XLPE cables in the voltage range of 200kV and above demands timely analysis of the partial discharge activities with the cable's accessories in order to avoid early breakdown.
